Toyota Sequoia 2024: Concept and Release Date. The current generation of Toyota’s full-size SUV has been around for too long but the Japanese supplier is in no hurry with the redesign. The Toyota Sequoia 2024 comes with just a handful of updates. Moreover, there is just one, the addition of a new edition, called Nightshade. This visual package brings a lot of aesthetical details but the overall layout remains pretty much the same.
You may depend on a familiar design, which has been around for nearly 13 years. This means that there are many aspects where this model feels outdated, especially when it comes to dashboard design and infotainment features. On the other side, it offers a tremendous amount of space which, along with the brand’s reliability reputation, makes this model a perfect choice for large families. The next-year model will start arriving in showrooms in a couple of weeks and we don’t expect significant changes in price.
Toyota Sequoia 2024 Engine
The Toyota Sequoia 2024 continues in the same way when it comes to powertrain. You may depend on a well-known 5.7-liter V8, which puts out around 381 horsepower and 401 pound-feet of torque. The power is sent through a six-speed automatic transmission and the overall ride quality is more than decent, given the model’s age. Driving dynamics are good, while shifts are smooth. When properly equipped, this large SUV can tow up to 7.000 pounds.
The thing we don’t like about this SUV is fuel economy. You may count on about 13 mpg in the city and 17 mpg on the highway, which are a few of the lowest ratings in the class.
Toyota Sequoia 2024 Redesign
As we already mentioned, the overall design of the SUV hasn’t changed way too much for these long 13 years of production. The overall layout, particularly in terms of mechanics is still the same. The rest of the vehicle hasn’t changed way too much either. The exterior has been updated a few years ago. However, the model still can’t hide its age, especially when looked at from the back.
Still, the Japanese supplier brings refreshments in the form of a new Nightshade Edition. This model comes with loads of new styling details and as you may presume, all of them are blacked, including the new 20-inch wheels. We should mention that this new version, which is essentially an appearance package, is available in three color options– Wind Chill Pearl, Magnetic Gray, and Midnight Black. On the inside, you may trust black leather upholstery.
Interior
As we’ve just mentioned, the new Nightshade edition comes in black leather upholstery. The rest of the lineup continues in a pretty familiar way. This cabin has both strong and weak points. When it comes to strong ones, the first thing that comes to mind is the amount of passenger room. With more than 120 inches in wheelbase, it’s obvious that the amount of legroom is impressive in all three rows. We also like the seats, which are massive and very comfortable. The cargo area offers 18.9 cubic feet of space behind the third row, 66.6 behind the second, and a total of 120.1 behind the first row. These are a few of the highest ratings in the class.

When it comes to downsides, the cabin definitely looks outdated. The dashboard looks old and, more importantly, it features an outdated infotainment system and other tech goodies. Furthermore, most materials are hard to the touch and the overall quality seems subpar compared to much younger rivals.

Despite the age, this is a pretty well-equipped SUV. The list of standard equipment is pretty long, especially when it comes to safety. All models come standard with goodies like a rearview camera, front and rear parking sensors, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, pedestrian detection, blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning and many more.
When it comes to tech goodies, you may trust things like a 7-inch touch screen, a Wi-Fi hot spot, Amazon Alexa, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, satellite radio, HD Radio, an eight-speaker stereo, three USB ports, and Bluetooth. Additionally, you can get upgrades in terms of navigation, a stereo with 12 or 14 speakers, and a rear-seat entertainment system with a 9-inch display. The list of standard equipment also includes goodies like proximity keyless entry, a moonroof, and tri-zone automatic climate control.
