Ford Explorer 2024: Release Date and Photos. The latest generation of Ford’s popular mid-size crossover arrived last year. So, no one expects to see more significant changes in the following years, including the 2024 Ford Explorer. Still, some novelties are possible. The second production year has brought novelties in terms of standard and available features, as well as a new Sport package.
The third production year may bring similar kinds of novelties, though we could see even more, rumors say. Various sources suggest that the plug-in hybrid could finally become available in North America. Other than that, things are about to remain largely the same.
This means that you may count on a spacious and functional crossover, which offers a wide range of powertrain options, as well as a pretty good driving experience. The list of standard equipment also seems quite decent but that doesn’t mean that this crossover is without flaws. One of the biggest complaints goes to the interior quality, while the third row isn’t particularly comfortable either. We expect to see this model sometime late in the next year.
Ford Explorer 2024 Could Get Plug-In Hybrid Powertrain
One of the biggest rumors we can find on the network is about the plug-in hybrid version. Currently, this model is available in Europe but not in North America, and we hope this will change soon. When it comes to specs, this system is based on a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 engine and gets significant help from the electric motor. So the total output goes around 450 horsepower and an impressive 600 pound-feet of torque.
The rest of the lineup should remain pretty much the same. Base models should carry on with a familiar 2.3-liter turbo-four, which puts out around 300 horsepower. Of course, a new 3.0-liter turbo V6 is also in offer, with a max output of 365 horsepower. The 2024 Ford Explorer will continue to use an upgraded version of this engine, with a max output of 400 horsepower. Of course, there is also a conventional hybrid version, based on a 3.3-liter V6, with a total output of 318 horsepower.
All engines use the same 10-speed automatic transmission, which sends power to rear wheels. Of course, AWD models are also available.
2024 Ford Explorer Design
Changes for the next year will come, but we certainly won’t see a 2024 Ford Explorer redesign definitely won’t happen. We are about to see the same overall layout, which includes evolutionary styling changes compared to the previous generation. Visually, differences between the two generations aren’t particularly big, but things are completely the opposite under the skin.

The current generation rides on the company’s new, CD6 platform and while we are still talking about a classic crossover design, the layout is now completely different. Instead of front wheels, power is sent to the rear now. This doesn’t bring benefits in the amount you would usually expect. Moreover, there are several FWD rivals that are much more fun to drive, and we aren’t talking just about Mazda CX-9.
Interior
The 2024 Ford Explorer is also about to remain the same. You may count on a familiar cabin design, which has both upsides and downsides. The overall quality is relatively good, though we have to mention that most rivals in the class look more upscale, mostly because of some areas that feature low-rent plastics.
The amount of space isn’t particularly impressive either, despite the pretty long wheelbase. While the front seats are really comfortable, the second and third rows are actually tighter when compared to key rivals. On the other side, things are pretty good in terms of cargo capacity. You may count on about 18 cubic feet behind the third row, 48 behind the second and 88 with the second and third-row folded down.
Features
Of course, some novelties in terms of standard equipment are about to come for sure. Still, we are pretty sure that most of the things are about to remain the same. The current model comes standard with goodies like tri-zone climate control, push-button start, an 8-inch touch screen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, four USB ports, six speakers, satellite radio, and a Wi-Fi hot spot.
On higher trim levels, you can also get things like a twin-panel sunroof, a 10.1-inch touch screen with a portrait layout, a 12.3-inch customizable driver display, a 14-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system, a rear-seat entertainment system, and wireless device charging etc.
2024 Ford Explorer Release Date and Price
Despite the potential updates, we don’t expect that the release date will be scheduled for an earlier date than usual. The 2024 Ford Explorer price should change either. The current model starts around 33.500 dollars and we don’t expect bigger changes in the future. The competition in the segment is pretty tough, despite that Explorer still makes pretty good sales numbers. Some of the key rivals are models like Toyota Highlander, Honda Pilot etc.
