The Journey is the oldest crossover in the segment, so it’s hard to expect from it to be competitive among models like Toyota Highlander, Honda Pilot etc. The current generation is so outdated that even the super-affordable price doesn’t make it a good value. The lackluster base engine, lack of modern features and below-average reliability ratings are some of the biggest issues of the current generation. Unfortunately, the Dodge Journey 2024 won’t come with bigger changes either.
If we can rely on the latest reports, it looks like the next generation of this crossover will come in a couple of years, most likely as the 2024 model year. Therefore, we are pretty sure that the Dodge Journey 2024 will carry on in the same way, without any particular change. We are about to see a familiar design, familiar specs and features. This also means arrival in typical time, sometime in late 2023.
Dodge Journey 2024 Engines
This is where Journey really shows its old age, particularly when it comes to the base engine. Standard models are equipped with a 2.4-liter four-cylinder unit, which is good for 173 horsepower and comes coupled with an ancient 4-speed automatic transmission. Acceleration is weak, as well as the overall driving experience.
Things are much better with the optional V6 engine. It is a familiar 3.6-liter V6, which is good for 283 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque. Not only that it offers significantly more power, but also comes with a more modern 6-speed automatic gearbox.
Another reason to pick V6 over the standard four-cylinder unit is fuel economy. The base engine returns around 19 mpg in the city and 25 mpg on the highway. The V6 is a little thirstier in the city (17mpg), while the highway ratings are the same.
Dodge Journey 2024 Design
The Dodge Journey 2024 redesign definitely won’t happen. We are about to see a familiar design, with familiar design characteristics. Therefore, count on the same, well-outdated styling, which hasn’t changed for a very long time. The same story goes for the mechanics, so it’s no wonder that the ride can be really rough sometimes. The suspension setup is a little bit outdated, so the current model definitely isn’t very maneuverable, nor comfortable. For the next year, we don’t expect to see any particular change, not even new color options.
Dodge Journey 2024 Interior
When it comes to interior design, the first thing that may bother you is the interior space. If you look at the wheelbase that measures almost 114 inches, the Journey seems like a quite typical mid-size crossover. However, there isn’t much space between the seats. The first row barely goes over 40 inches of legroom, while the second row features way below-average 36 inches of legroom. With less than 24 inches of legroom, the third row is pretty much unusable, except for small kids. The cargo space is also very limited. You may count on less than 11 cubic feet behind the third row, while the overall volume goes around 68 cubic feet. That’s way below-average rating for the class of mid-size crossover.

When it comes to interior quality, things are actually surprisingly good. Of course, the dashboard looks a little bit outdated, but materials are actually quite nice. Decent quality, the dashboard is also equipped with a nice 8.4-inch touchscreen, but only in higher trims. Base models come with a 4.3-inch touchscreen. Cloth seats are standard, but leather upholstery is also available.
Features
When it comes to standard equipment, we don’t expect any bigger change, so the Dodge Journey 2024 should remain rather pretty basic. The current model comes standard with things like a smaller touchscreen, 6-speaker stereo and single USB port. Things are slightly better in higher trims, where you can also get things like navigation system, a rear-seat DVD player, satellite radio, Bluetooth, six-speaker Alpine stereo etc.
Dodge Journey 2024 Release Date and Price
Considering that we won’t see any changes in the next year, we don’t expect surprises in terms of release date and price. The Dodge Journey 2024 should hit the market sometime in the last quarter of 2023, with the starting price of quite affordable 24.000 dollars.
Redesign
Various reports are speculating about the redesign. Sources like Motor1 suggest that the successor will hit the market in 2024 and that will ride on Alfa Romeo Stelvio’s Giorgio platform. This means the RWD layout and significant improvements in terms of performances.
The new Journey should also be notably bigger. It will have a lot of things in common with the next-generation Grand Cherokee. Practically, it will take the Durango’s place, which will return to the original BoF layout. At this point, it is unclear whether the new model will use the same name, or we are about to see something different. More details should come soon.
