Chevy Equinox 2024: Release Date and Refresh. The refreshed version of Chevy’s popular compact crossover is finally coming, after a delay caused by the Coronavirus pandemics. The original plan was to introduce this version for the 2022 model year and we saw this model a long time ago, at the Chicago Auto Show in 2024. Therefore, most of the updates were know a while ago. Meanwhile, Chevy did a few more tweaks to make them more even more appealing in the market’s most competitive SUV segment.
Besides visual novelties, the Chevy Equinox 2024 also comes with updates on the inside, particularly in terms of the infotainment system. There are new trim levels, like the RS, which bring some pretty exclusive features. On the other side, the engine lineup remains the same. The diesel has been discontinued, so it’s all about choosing between two familiar gasoline units. The pricing is yet to be announced but we don’t expect that the new version will cost much higher.
Chevy Equinox 2024 Engines
There are no changes under the hood for the Chevy Equinox 2024, so you may count on two familiar gasoline options in the offer. Base models will continue with a smaller 1.5-liter turbo-four, which puts around 170 horsepower. As you may presume, driving dynamics aren’t particularly great, but the engine gets the job done and it’s rather focused on fuel economy. It comes in pair with a six-speed automatic transmission and returns around 26 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the highway.
The optional 2.0-liter turbo-four delivers 252 horsepower and it is a much better choice for more ambitious drivers. It accelerates far better, while the nine-speed transmission runs smoother and doesn’t hesitate to shift as the six-speed unit. On the other side, it is notably thirstier. You may count on about 22 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway.
Chevy Equinox 2024 Redesign
We believe that you’ve already seen the updated version of this crossover, which was presented a year ago. The current generation has been around since 2017 and this seems like perfect timing for updates. Naturally, the focus is on the front end, which gets a new grille, new headlights, bumper and more, all aligned with Chevy’s latest design language, which already characterizes models like Blazer. Changes in other areas remained pretty subtle, while you can also count on typical mid-cycle updates like new color options, new wheels etc.
On the other side, the mechanical aspect remains pretty much the same. Of course, we are talking about a familiar E2 platform, while most of the parts are shared with the GMC Terrain. The Equinox features a relatively simple suspension setup, so the handling isn’t particularly engaging. The comfort isn’t remarkable either, but that’s the case with most crossovers in the class.
Interior
When it concerns interior design, things have remained pretty much the same. The only major novelty is the updated infotainment system, which now comes with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration. The rest of the dashboard remains pretty much the same, which means that you may count on quality that isn’t particularly attractive. The materials on the inside aren’t remarkable either, though higher trim levels can look pretty appealing.

On the other side, Equinox is very generous with space. We like the fact that adult passengers can accommodate with ease in both rows of seats. The front seats are okay, while the driving position is good. Also, the visibility is very good in all directions. When it involves the cargo area, you may count on about 30 cubic feet behind the rear seats and 64 cubic feet of the total volume. That’s about average for the class.
New Trim Levels
One of the interesting novelties that come with this facelift is the introduction of the new RS trim level. This is a sporty iteration of the crossover, which comes with several unique styling details, both outside and inside. When it comes to the exterior design, the first thing you’ll notice is a set of unique, 17-inch wheels, while a lot of the vehicle has been blacked out. On the inside, you may count on unique red stitching and black upholstery, as well as on a unique gear shifter.
Speaking of the exclusive details, we should also mention the range-topping Premier trim level. This one also comes with some features you can’t get in other versions. Once again, there is unique stitching, while you may also count on gloss details on the console.
Chevy Equinox 2024 Release Date and Price
We expect to see Chevy Equinox 2024 in showrooms this summer. When it concerns the price, we don’t expect a bigger increase, so base models should go around 25.000 dollars. Key competitors are Ford Escape, Toyota RAV4, Honda CR-V etc.
